Alton Amateur Lean-to Greenhouse

This is the greenhouse range that's been designed for cropping right the way through the winter months. It has full length glass panels and sloping sides to make the greatest possible use of the low-angled winter sun. It's economical to heat, too, because the Western Red Cedar is a most efficient thermal insulator and with a lean-to you get the added benifit of the heat retained in the house wall..

Cedar greenhouses have Alton's unique Ventaccess sliding ventilators fitted to alternate bays. These, used in conjunction with the roof ventilation provide natural air movement around plants at ALL levels of the greenhouse. And, as their name suggests, they also give easy access from outside the greenhouse to plants grown underneath the staging.

Easy to erect ALTONAMATEUR GREENHOUSES are pre-treated and have a wide, sliding door and kerbless doorway for easy wheelbarrow access. This, together with the no- slam sliding door makes for easy access and means you can carry plants and armfuls of seed trays in or out without fear of tripping over a kerb or threshold. Alton Traditional Lean-to Greenhouse

Traditional-style greenhouses have parallel sides that don't restrict the growing space at high level and are ideally suited to the addition of high - level shelving. So, the Cedar Traditional is the greenhouse for those people who need maximum amount of growing space in the smallest amount of ground space and who prefer the looks and superior insulating properties of Cedar.

ALTON TRADITIONAL greenhouses have many of the same standard features as the Amateur range - Ventaccess sliding ventilators, roof ventilation, full-length glass panels, preservative treatment, sliding door, guttering and downpipes are all included in the price. And, of course, Cedar has an inherent resistance to rot so you can expect your Cedar Traditional to last for years.

ALTON TRADITIONAL greenhouses can be used with Instant-Fit Cedar cladding panels - available as an over the outside of the glass. These give you year-round versatility - to staging height all round for maximum heat retention in winter or for growing ferns in summer; glass-to-ground all round for growing tall subjects such as tomatoes or for the best of both worlds.

ROOF VENTILATION

ALTON GREENHOUSES are famous for their superior ventilation. Greenhouse plants need natural air movement around their base or they become vulnerable to a disease called "Grey mould'. Alton's unique Ventaccess low-level ventilation works in conjunction with roof vents to provide healthy through ventilation at All levels of the greenhouse. This is far better than greenhouses with only roof vents because such an arrangement only provides air movement in the top half of the greenhouse.

ALTON CONCRETE BASE KERBS

All ALTON GREENHOUSES are designed for erecting with 5' 13crn high perimeter concrete base kerbs between the ground and the bottom of the timber frame. Our purpose-designed sectional concrete base provides a really solid, attractive and economical way of doing this.

The site for the greenhouse should be perfectly flat and level and it is essential that the ground is well compacted to support the weight of the building. If the ground is soft or loose it is important to lay a perimeter concrete foundation onto which the base kerbs can be positioned.

All building dimensions shown on this site are approximate, based on external wall sizes. Always make allowance for any roof overhang for installation, or wall thickness if internal dimensions are critical. All models are pre-treated with top quality timber preservative, have pre-glazed frames, easy glide door(s), roof vent and instructions.
